Call of the Wild, by Jack London, became a huge bestseller when it was first published in 1903. It tells the story of Buck, a much-loved dog who is kidnapped and transported to the snowy wastes of northwest Canada to work for gold hunters. As the story unfolds, Buck becomes more and more a dog of the wild, until at the end he faces a pack of wolves.
